This course develops the understanding of the principles of soil mechanics used by civil engineers in geotechnics and introduces the

application of this knowledge with the principles of soil mechanics. It covers topics on physical properties and classification of soil, site

investigation, bearing capacity of shallow foundation, vertical stresses, lateral earth pressure, flow of water through soil and soil

compaction.
